Care Instructions

Proper care and cleaning ensure the allure and durability of your products for years to come.

Please follow these guide for the best ways to care your pieces.

Wood is a natural material that responds to its environment, particularly humidity and light. Exposure to sunlight may result in color and structural changes, especially during the first few months of use.

Environmental Considerations: For optimal preservation, place wood furniture in rooms with a humidity level of 40-50% and a temperature around 20°C. Avoid direct sunlight and excessive heat sources, as these can damage the wood over time.

Maintenance: Dust regularly using a soft microfiber cloth. In the event of liquid spills, wipe them immediately with absorbent paper to prevent staining or damage.

Deep Cleaning: For occasional deep cleaning, use a mild soap or wood cleaner diluted in water. Remove any residue with a clean, damp cloth and dry immediately with an absorbent towel.

Avoid Harsh Products: Refrain from using abrasive cleaners, harsh chemicals, or heavy-duty polishes that can harm the wood’s surface.

Protection: Use coasters and placemats to protect the wood from heat or moisture, as prolonged exposure can damage the finish.

To preserve the elegance of your ceramic pieces, please follow these care instructions:

Maintenance: Use a soft, dry microfiber cloth to dust regularly, keeping surfaces clean and polished.

Cleaning Stains: For liquid marks, gently wipe the area with a damp cloth, then dry with a soft cloth. For persistent stains, a small amount of window cleaner applied to a dry cloth can be used to gently lift the stain.

Protection: We recommend placing protective pads beneath heavy or blunt objects such as marble or bronze to prevent any damage.

Handling: Due to the delicate nature of ceramics, handle with care, using clean gloves and sufficient assistance based on the size and weight of the item.

At Pd Atelier, our metal pieces are crafted with precision and care, ensuring each one is truly unique. The machining process, along with natural atmospheric and thermal changes, may create subtle variations that enhance the individuality of each piece.

Natural Aging & Patina Development

Brass and bronze are low-maintenance materials that naturally age over time, developing a rich, beautiful patina that adds to their character. This patina is a valued element of the piece, but it requires proper care to preserve its beauty.

Maintenance

To maintain the surface and clean without damaging the patina, gently dust it with a smooth, clean and dry microfiber cloth (no intense rubbing). For more delicate care, lightly breathe on the cloth before rubbing gently in the direction of the patina. Avoid using any cleaners containing alcohol, solvents, or abrasive materials, as these can damage the finish and interfere with the natural aging process.

Deeper Cleaning

For more thorough cleaning, use a dry or slightly dampened cloth or a vacuum brush attachment. If necessary, you can use a mild soap diluted in warm water. After cleaning, wipe away any residue with a damp cloth and dry the surface immediately with a soft towel to prevent water spots from forming.

Handling & Placement

Proper handling is crucial to avoid damage. When moving metal items, handle them with care to prevent scratching or damaging the finish. Refrain from placing heavy or blunt objects on powder-coated surfaces, as this can lead to chipping or dents.

Be particularly cautious with bronze surfaces, as the patina can be easily damaged. Avoid dragging objects across the surface, and always use protective pads under heavy items to preserve the finish.

Do not place wet, hot, or blunt objects directly on bronze surfaces, as they can damage the patina. Excessive moisture or heat can compromise the integrity of the metal and finish.

Brass is prone to oxidation when it comes into contact with sweat, so it’s important to handle these pieces with clean, dry hands, or consider using gloves to prevent tarnishing.

Each piece of stone at Pd Atelier is a unique work of nature, characterized by its own markings, veins, and subtle variations in color. While our stone surfaces are sealed or polished for stain resistance, natural stones remain sensitive to acids found in foods and beverages, such as champagne and citrus. To ensure the lasting beauty of your stone, we recommend the following care guidelines:

Cleaning

Dust the stone surface regularly with a soft microfiber cloth to keep it free of debris and maintain its luster.

For more thorough cleaning, use a soft cloth with a few drops of stone-specific soap or mild detergent mixed with warm water. Ensure the detergent is non-acidic and free from bleach, as harsh chemicals can harm the surface.

After cleaning, rinse the stone thoroughly with clean water and dry it with a soft cloth to prevent water spots.

Handling Spills

In the event of a spill, act immediately by blotting with a soft cloth to avoid absorption into the stone. Follow by flushing the area with water and mild soap, rinsing thoroughly, and drying with an absorbent towel.

Stains & Scratches

Should a stain or scratch become permanent, professional care will be required for restoration. In such cases, the stone may need sanding and polishing to restore its original finish.

Protection

To prevent potential damage, always use protective coverings such as coasters, placemats, or tablecloths when serving food or beverages.

For heavier items, such as marble or bronze, place suitable protective pads beneath them to avoid scratches or indentations.

Long-Term Maintenance

To maintain the protective seal on your stone surface, consider resealing it periodically based on usage and wear. This will help preserve its resistance to stains and keep it looking pristine for years to come.

Routine Cleaning

  • Dust Removal: Remove dust frequently with a soft brush or vacuum using a soft nozzle attachment set to low or medium suction. Vacuuming should be done frequently, especially in high-traffic areas, to prevent dirt build-up.

  • Fabric Protection: Avoid rubbing the fabric too vigorously, as this could lead to color loss or fabric damage. Cushions should be rotated and flipped during vacuuming to ensure even wear and maintain their shape.

  • Moisture Management: Never leave the fabric soaked. If the fabric becomes wet, use a hairdryer at a safe distance to dry the area, but be careful not to overheat the fabric, as this can cause discoloration.

  • Avoid Harsh Products: Do not use concentrated detergents, bleach, ammonia, or any soap intended for hard surfaces, as these can damage the fabric.

Handling Spills

  • Immediate Action: Always blot liquid spills immediately with a soft, absorbent cloth to prevent stains from setting. Allowing liquids to penetrate the fabric may result in permanent marks.

  • Dry Spills: For solid particles or dried spills, gently remove loose particles with a spoon or vacuum before proceeding with further cleaning.

Stain Removal

  • Non-Greasy Stains: For non-greasy stains, carefully dab the area with a microfiber cloth or sponge wrung out in warm water. Avoid excessive rubbing, and work in circular motions toward the center of the stain to prevent edge marks.

  • Test Cleaning Products: Before using any stain-removal agents, test them on an inconspicuous area of the upholstery to ensure no damage or discoloration occurs.

  • Professional Assistance: For more challenging or larger stains, we recommend contacting a professional dry cleaner. Inform them of any prior treatments or cleaning attempts to ensure proper handling.

Special Considerations

  • Fabric Soiling: Dark denim or heavily dyed fabrics may transfer color onto upholstery. While cleaning may not always produce perfect results, it is important to act quickly in such cases.

  • Permanent Stains or Scratches: If a stain or scratch becomes permanent, professional restoration, such as sanding and polishing, may be required to restore the original appearance.

Cushion & Scatter Pillow Care

  • Shape Maintenance: Loose seat and back cushions, particularly those filled with down and feathers, should be regularly turned and patted down to maintain their shape. This should be done after removing the cushions from the structure to improve air circulation.

Regular Fluffing: Scatter pillows should also be shaken and fluffed regularly to retain their plush appearance and comfort.

Lacquered pieces from Pd Atelier are meticulously stained and/or polished to enhance the depth and elegance of each finish. While lacquer provides a durable and glossy surface, it is still susceptible to physical damages such as chips, scratches, and wear. Proper care is essential to maintain its beauty and longevity, and it requires specific attention compared to other furniture finishes.

Maintenance: Dust lacquered surfaces regularly with a soft microfiber cloth to maintain their glossy appearance. Avoid the use of heavy-duty polishes or waxes, as these products may cause yellowing on lighter finishes.

Handling Spills: Lacquer is vulnerable to water; therefore, it’s crucial to promptly wipe away any spills to preserve the integrity of the finish.

Placement: To prevent over-drying or moisture damage, avoid placing lacquered furniture near heat sources such as radiators or air conditioning units. Extreme fluctuations in humidity can cause the wood beneath the lacquer to crack and the lacquer to lift.

Protection: Avoid placing heavy objects directly on lacquered surfaces. To safeguard the finish, we recommend using protective pads or felt under decorative items to prevent scratches and maintain the piece’s pristine condition.

Professional Care Recommendation

In all cases, we recommend contacting a professional cleaner for significant stains or upholstery care. Particularly for large stains, or if the fabric has been previously treated, professional cleaning ensures the best possible outcome and long-term care.

For any other damage, please contact us immediately at customerservice@pd-atelier.com, and do not treat the surface yourself. Care instructions are provided for indicative purposes only and do not guarantee the complete removal of stains and damages depending on their nature.
